New Delhi: Security has been tightened across markets and malls, and a quick reaction team and paramilitary forces are on vigil — Delhi Police Wednesday said it has secured the national capital ahead of Diwali and US President Barack Obama’s visit.
“We have strengthened our presence across the city, particularly in markets, a quick reaction team, Special Weapons Action Teams (SWAT), central paramilitary forces and training reserves are placed in markets and they are on strict vigil,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS.
He added that security was particularly tight at market places, malls and shopping complexes as these are vulnerable targets.
“Delhi Police have also asked representatives of market associations to keep an extra watch on their surroundings…and a police control room van will always be near markets and malls,” Bhagat said.
He said the personnel of the force would be on their toes even after Diwali on account of Obama’s visit to the capital city beginning Nov 7.
“We have a high-profile visit soon after the festival, so our security is in place,” Bhagat added.
