Dhaka : An apex trade body in Bangladesh has demanded removal of “corrupt” lawmakers from various parliamentary sub-committees.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Abul Kalam Azad did not name anybody during a discussion Saturday in the presence of Commerce Minister Faruk Khan when he alleged that many businessmen-lawmakers represented “their own interests”.
The country could not make its anticipated progress because of “unskilled politicians and corrupt bureaucrats,” he was quoted as saying by bdnews24.com, a newspaper website.
“MPs, who run businesses have been made members of the related sub-committees. This is like entrusting chicken to jackals. They never represent the country’s interest, rather serve their own interests.
“Businessmen are honest. We want to pay taxes, but crooked officials obstruct us,” he claimed, adding, “These MPs are destroying the entire financial system,” the New Age newspaper quoted Azad as saying.
