New Delhi : Feeling the Supreme Court heat on the handling of 2G spectrum scam matter by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the central government Friday decided that Attorney General G. Vahanvati would represent the Prime Minister’s Office in the next hearing Tuesday.
This is being seen as an expression of displeasure over Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium’s handling of the matter in the apex court.
Vahanvati confirmed that he would represent the Prime Minister’s Office before the bench of Justice G.S.Singhvi and Justice A.K.Ganguly, who sought to know two days ago why the prime minister did not give sanction to Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy in 2008 to file a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against A. Raja, who resigned as the communication minister five days ago over the 2G spectrum controversy.
“I will be representing the PMO in the court on Tuesday,” he said.
According to informed sources, in another 2G spectrum scam petition filed by the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), Subramanium will represent the department of telecommunications (DoT) and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Harin Rawal will represent the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
