Lucknow : Expressing confidence that his party would win the 2014 general elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Gadkari Friday called on its activists to prepare a “detailed plan in advance” for delivering “quality service” to the people.

“There’s no doubt of getting the mandate…I am sure the citizens of the country would hand over the reins of power to BJP…So the main challenge, that now, lies ahead of all of us is to devise the strategy for delivering services to the masses, particularly the poor and downtrodden,” Gadkari said in his address on the first day of two-day national convention on urban good governance.

“You all should gear up to meet the challenge and start planning well in advance for the detailed plan we would require to serve the citizens of the country,” Gadkari said.

Referring to his visits to Bihar for poll campaigning, the BJP president said: “Recently in my election campaigns in Bihar, I learnt that the caste-based politics is transforming into development-based politics…We will take development-based politics across the country. The onus is on all of you (BJP activists)…You have the vision, start working on it.”

“BJP workers will have to act as a catalyst to bring quality changes in the country and should have a special focus on the development of the poor…When we would be able to provide food, shelter, clothes to every poor of the country, then only our mission would be accomplished in a real sense,” he added.

Accusing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of not taking enough steps for improving the living standards of farmers and poor people, Gadkari said: “For the proper development of the state, our party would undertake a project to prepare a ‘Vision Document’ for Uttar Pradesh in consultation with the experts from various fields.”

He asked party activists to make their best effort to win power in the state.

“People of the state are not happy with the Bahujan Samaj Party government that has failed just like the earlier Mulayam Singh government in terms of delivering services and executing welfare schemes. I am sure the BJP would definitely take an advantage out of all this and acquire power in the state.”
