Pakistani MP’s guard among three set on fire in Karachi

Islamabad : A security guard of a firebrand young Pakistani parliamentarian Friday survived after being set on fire along with his father and five-year-old son in Karachi.

Faisal Raza Abidi, who represents the government in the upper house of parliament, said: “The unknown assailants attacked the guard, his father and minor son near Sohrab Goth area.”

“We have shifted them to hospital where they are undergoing treatment,” he said, adding that “this is not the first instance where he or people close to him have been harmed”.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East of Karachi Police, Ameer Shaikh told media “that statements of the injured have been recorded and we have sent raiding parties to the spot where the incident occurred”.

Chief minister Qaim Ali Shah has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Abidi, a politician of the ruling party in the central government and belongs to Karachi, has taken on several mighty politicians in the recent past with his vocal outbursts. The security guard was provided to him by police for official security duty.
