Lucknow: Denying that she was trying to ape her Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati asserted Monday that providing good governance was her goal right from day one.
“It is absolutely wrong to assume that taking the cue from Nitish Kumar, I have suddenly started devoting attention to issues related to good governance,” Mayawati told a hastily convened press conference here.
Her comment followed a day-long review of the state’s law and order situation by her Saturday, which led the opposition to allege that she was trying to ape the Bihar chief minister.
“The opposition is deliberately spreading a canard to create a false impression as if I was not concerned about law and order or development of the state so far,” she pointed out.
According to her, “right from the time I assumed the chief minister’s office for the fourth time in 2007, my main attention was focused on law and order and development”.
Mayawati unveiled a long list of welfare and social security schemes announced by her during the past three and a half years.
