Ranchi : A first information report (FIR) has been lodged against Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) president R.K. Anand and three others for corruption in purchase of equipments for the 34th National Games, an official said Wednesday.
“An FIR has been lodged against four people, including R.K. Anand, in purchasing equipments at higher rates for the 34th National Games,” Shashinath Jha, deputy inspector general of police, Jharkhand vigilance bureau, told IANS.
Besides Anand, who was counsel for former naval chief Admiral S.M. Nanda’s grandson Sanjeev Nanda in the BMW hit-and-run case in Delhi, the FIR has been lodged against JOA general secretary S.M. Hashmi, treasurer Madhukant Pathal and former sports director P.C. Mishra, he said.
The FIR was lodged by the vigilance bureau Wednesday.
According to sources, the sports equipments worth crores of rupees were purchased at higher than prevalent rates by the accused.
They have been booked under provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Games will be organised in the state in 2011.
