New Delhi: World champion Tejaswini Sawant says overcaution cost her the gold medal in the women’s 50 metres rifle prone event at the Commonwealth Games Tuesday.

“My personal best is 597 and in trying to better it I fell short by three points. I am disappointed. If I had shot patiently, I could have easily won the gold,” said Tejwasini, who shot 594, three short of her personal best she recorded at the World championships in Munich in August.

Scotland’s Jen McIntosh won the gold with a score of 597 while Johanne Brekke of Wales settled for the bronze with 593 points.

Tejawini said she took the wind factor too seriously.

“I was warned about the strong wind. After the third series I became overconscious, especially about the wind. But normally I don’t give much importance to the wind. But today I don’t know why I was thinking too much about the wind. During the competition I spoke to my coaches and they told me not to bother about the wind,” she said.

Coming into the tournament as a World champion, Tejaswini said there was no pressure on her.

“No, there was no pressure as I was not thinking much about the field. In fact, I was competing against myself,” she said.

“After the World championship, I had just 10-12 days of training for the Commonwealth Games. So somewhere at the back of my mind I was thinking whether I can do something with just 10 days of training,” she said.

Tejaswini, however, said that she was happy with her performance.

“I could have done better, but I am satisfied with my performance. The only regret is that gold went to some other country. I tried my best and am happy about it,” she said.
