Attack on masjid: RSS workers arrested

Alappuzha: Seven persons, allegedly members of the RSS, have been arrested in Alappuzha in connection with the attack on a masjid. Stones were pelted and the imam attacked at the Saeed Masjid at Roadmukku, Mannancheri, when the RSS was conducting a route march on October 10.

RSS workers attacking Muslims in New Delhi last year

Abhilash, Praveen, Sumesh, Mahesh, Samkumar, Gramshi K Vijay and Shyamjith were arrested by the police yesterday. They were produced before the Alappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate and remanded. The police are yet to catch hold of eight more persons involved in the case, according to reports. Abhilash and Praveen were caught on Monday night itself and the others were caught from the information provided by them.

Meanwhile, the district Jamat Council condemned the increasing attack on places of religious worship. RSS conspiracy is behind the attack on the Saeed Masjid, said state general secretary Adv A Pookunhu. Such incidents were meant to provoke the Muslim community. Those involved in the attack should be charged with attempt to murder, he added. The meeting demanded that the attacked masjid and imam should be given remuneration of Rs 10 lakhs.
