Zirakpur (Punjab): Police Saturday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters – active in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh – with the arrest of three people and the recovery of six cars.
“Acting on a tip off, we laid a trap and arrested the kingpin of the gang Gursewak Singh from Pabhat village here yesterday (Friday). On the basis of his interrogation, we arrested two others — Daljit Singh and Rajesh Verma. Nine other members of the gang are still at large,” a Punjab police official said.
Three Alto cars, two Indica Vista and one Indigo car have been recovered from them.
Police are hopeful of more arrests and recovering more than 35 cars and SUVs stolen from the region over the past few months, the official said, adding the gang was active in different towns of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
Zirakpur town is around 10 km from Chandigarh.
