Thiruvananthapuram: Making political agenda out of faith-related matters is dangerous, said Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury and chief head of the Anglican Church. He was speaking at a get-together of different social, political and religious leaders at the LMS Corner in Thiruvananthapuram, on his short visit to India.
Dr Williams said that seeing religion for political gains would create many problems in the society. Religion and politics should work together in such areas so as to bring development to all sections of people. Today’s society faces a lot of problems in the just distribution of natural resources and wealth. Just distribution is far more important than financial growth. India follows a balanced view in this regard. This policy is the reason why the economic crisis that shook the whole world did not affect India much, he added. State ministers MA Baby, M Vijayakumar and V Surendran Pilla, Imam Moulvi Jamaludheen Mankada of Palayam and Archbishop Susaipakyom etc attended the get-together.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Jamat e Islami in Kerala held talks with the Archbishop. State Secretary H Shaheer Moulvi and area secretary M Mehaboob were in the team that held talks. The Archbishop asked the leaders of the Jamat to take care to build good relations between Christians and Muslims.
