New Delhi : The Supreme Court will Wednesday hear a petition seeking deferment of the much awaited Ayodhya verdict by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court.
While filing a special leave petition on behalf of retired bureaucrat Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, Supreme Court advocate Sunil Kumar Jain made a mention before a bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and A.K. Patnaik, who agreed to hear the case at 2 p.m.
The petition seeks postponement of the high court verdict expected Sep 24.
The petition seeks postponement of the verdict at least until the end of the Commonwealth Games, to be held here from Oct 3-14. It also seeks the court’s direction for urging the parties invoved to explore possibilities of an out of court amicable settlement to the vexed issue.
Tripathi’s petition was turned down by the three-judge special bench of the Allahabad High Court last week. While two judges S.U. Khan and Sudhir Agrawal rejected the application, the third judge, Dharam Veer Sharma, allowed the plea, following which Tripathi chose to move the apex court.
