Maulana Ameeduzzamman Keranwi is no more

New Delhi: Renowned Islamic Scholar and General Secretary of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (Salim Group), Maulana Ameeduzzaman Keranawi passed away on Friday morning. He was 72 and suffering from brain tumor. He took his last breath at his residence in Jamia Nagar.

Maulana Keranwi was also Working President of Old Boys Association of Darul Uloom Deoband and member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. On his sudden demise, leaders of all prominent Muslim organizations have expressed their deep sorrow.

His body was taken to his ancestral house in Deoband where he was buried in Qasmi Qabristan after Isha prayer. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two brothers. He was the brother of Maulana Wahiduzzaman Keranwi, former deputy rector of Darul Uloom Deoband.

Maulana Amiduzzaman had command over Arbic, Urdu and English languages and authored several books in these languages. He was the main brain for compiling the famous Arabic Dictionary Alqamusulwaheed.

He had been editor of Arabic monthly magazine Saqafatul Ummah published by Ministry of Culture of Indian Government for long time. He also worked in Saudi Embassy for several years.

Several Muslim scholars and intellectuals expressed grieve over his departure and termed it huge loss of the community as well as the country. They include Maulana Arashad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Akhtrul Wasay, Professor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Maulana Mahmood Madani , Member of Parliament and Syed Ahmad Khan, General Secretary of United Muslim of India.
