Paris: Around half of the children from gypsy communities in Europe fail to complete primary education, according to latest Unesco report.
Unesco will release this report during the First International Conference on Early Childhood Education and Care in Moscow to be held Sep 27-29, Prensa Latina reported.
The report states that the Roma – the largest minority community in Europe, with around 10 million people – is the most vulnerable to poverty, marginal education and unemployment.
Unesco general director Irina Bokova said children are the most valuable resources and their education is a fundamental right.
“Denying that (education for children) makes us much poorer, creates exclusion, and unacceptable inequalities, and cultivates social tensions,” Bokova was quoted as saying.
