Yuvraj, Harbhajan to get Rs.1 crore each from Punjab

Chandigarh : Punjab Monday announced a cash award of Rs.1 crore each for Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh, who hail from the state and were part of the World Cup winning cricket team.

Both players hail from Punjab and have been part of the state’s Ranji team. Yuvraj was declared Man of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup which India won against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai Saturday.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the state’s sports minister, announced that the players would be honoured at a special function by the Punjab government shortly.

Congratulating Team India, he said: “We are all proud of you. This victory is all the sweeter as it came under so much pressure. A special word of congratulations to skipper M.S. Dhoni for his great innings and for leading the team with courage and aplomb.”
