24 people hit by food poisoning in Himachal

Shimla : At least 24 people were admitted to a hospital in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh Wednesday with symptoms of food poisoning after they ate food prepared from buckwheat flour, a health official said.

The patients, most of them belonging to Paonta Sahib town, some 170 km from here, were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Paonta Sahib, chief medical officer M.K. Pathak told IANS over phone.

He said the people purchased the suspected contaminated buckwheat flour from local shops.

All the patients are fine and recovering, he added.

Paonta Sahib, the town known for a historical Sikh shrine, is located on the border with Uttarakhand.

In a similar incident in Delhi, a 58-year-old man died and over 220 people were admitted to various city hospitals Tuesday after consuming food prepared with buckwheat flour.
