By IRNA,
London : Former Libyan foreign minister Moussa Koussa is travelling to Qatar where he is expected to hold talks with Libyan rebels and establish if he has a role to play in the transitional national council and possibly engineer a peace deal.
The British Foreign Office Tuesday confirmed that Koussa had left the UK for Doha on the eve of a meeting of the Libya contact group, which representatives of Banghazi-based transitional council have been invited to attend.
His departure comes after he broke his silence on his defection to Britain from the Gaddifi regime on Monday, saying Libya was going through its “worst time” and was ready to make the “sacrifice” of his resignation for the sake of his country.
A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed that despite more than 30 years working for the Libyan regimes, the British government was treating Koussa as ‘a free individual, who can travel to and from the UK as he wishes’.
The transitional council already includes several former ministers and officials from the Gaddifi regime, including its current chair, former justice minister Mahmoud Jebril and former economy, trade and investment minister Ali Abd-al-Aziz al-Isawi.
