New Delhi : A brother and sister from Manipur have been severely beaten by their landlord and neighbours in Munirka area of Delhi, a northeast support NGO said Wednesday.
The incident occurred late Tuesday.
The siblings were hospitalised at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ (AIIMS) trauma centre, according to North-East Support Centre and Helpline, an NGO working against discrimination with people from northeast.
The brother, who was severely injured, remains to be critical but out of danger. His sister was also brutally assaulted and suffered injuries on head and face.
The two, whose names were not disclosed, were living in a rented accommodation at Babulal Chowk of Munirka. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday night when they had a tiff with the landlord after the brother objected to someone staring in from a window.
“Tulsi Ram, the owner of the house, his son and neighbours brutally beat up the two with bats and other things. We took them to AIIMS,” Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of North-East Support Centre, told IANS.
According to Chandra, the police recorded the statements of the two but no action has been initiated so far.
“Most of the racial attack and sexual violence against northeast men and women take place in Munirka and the law enforcing agency has failed to ensure the safety of northeast communities in the colony,” he said.
