Islamabad : Pakistan’s Law Minister Babar Awan offered to resign in the Supreme Court Wednesday, a media report said.
Federal Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Babar Awan made the resignation offer before the Supreme Court during the hearing of reopening of former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s trial, the Geo News reported.
The minister had sought permission to argue the case. However, the court didn’t allow it, saying as he was law minister he couldn’t be permitted. Awan then presented his resignation.
An effort is on to re-examine the death sentence meted out to Bhutto who was ousted from power in a military putsch in 1977.
He was hanged two years later April 4, 1979, when the country was ruled by General Zia-ul Haq.
