The two-member commission, comprising retired Justice J.A. Patil of the Bombay High Court and former state chief secretary P. Subrahmanyam, was accompanied by a team of senior officials from 11 central and state government departments.

After inspecting the controversial 21-storied building, Patil told waiting mediapersons: “Whatever we have seen, we have recorded.”

Both Patil and Subrahmanyam were seen carrying several files with them while the staff and officials attached to the commission took measurements inside and outside the building, the road adjacent to it touching the bus depot of the BrihanMumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking.

The Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society, in which prime flats have been allegedly cornered by several politicians, officials and defence personnel, is accused of flouting several norms and committing several irregularities.

A major issue concerning the society is whether the land belongs to the Maharashtra government or the defence estates organisation.

Another prime issue under examination is whether the society has been favoured with extra floor space index (FSI) and the allotment of flats, as alleged in some quarters.

The commission secretary, N.N. Kumbhar, had sought the people’s cooperation and urged those connected or having knowledge about the society to file affidavits before it.

Besides, Kumbhar had summoned several officials of several departments responsible for the entire Adarsh Society controversy when the panel carried out the inspection Wednesday.

Besides the government-appointed probe panel, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also conducting its independent investigation into the society.
