The accused have been identified as Samimuddin, 30, Khizer, 21, and Talib, 27.

“They were hired by meat shop owner Rashid Qureshi, 26, to fire at him so that he could implicate his in-laws,” Additional Commissioner of Police Virender Singh said.

The incident was reported April 10 when Qureshi, a resident of Din Basti in south Delhi, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre with gun shot injury on his right thigh.

During investigation, it was found that Qureshi had eloped with another girl after his marriage. They were detained by the policein Amroha where they were staying in a guest house.

“The matter was initially settled on their own. However, differences cropped up between Qureshi and his wife with his in-laws threatening to initiate legal action against him,” Singh said.

Police have recovered a country-made pistol which was used for staging the shooting incident.
