Patna : In another case of street justice in a Bihar village, two suspected criminals were lynched as they tried to escape after demanding money from a local medical practitioner, police said Wednesday.
The two men in their mid 20s were beaten to death at a village near Motihari, the district headquarters of East Champaran.
Angry villagers caught them as they were trying to flee after the alleged extortion bid.
“The two criminals were lynched by an angry mob of people after they were surrounded and caught,” a police official said.
In the last two months, nearly a dozen cases of lynching have been reported across the state, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar claims to have brought in ‘sushasan’, or good governance.
One of the worst cases of mob justice occurred in 2007 when 10 men from the underprivileged Kueri community were beaten to death in Vaishali district as they were suspected to be thieves. Later, a high-level probe found that the men were innocent.
