Talking to reporters, party spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said the incident raised questions on India’s security.

“It is a disturbing revelation, P.V. Narashima Rao government was there. We expect a probe statement from government,” Prasad said.

Purulia arms drop accused Kim Davy, in an interview to Times Now channel, alleged that then Indian Government planned the drop, with British intelligence, to destabilise Jyoti Basu’s Marxist government in West Bengal.

Another set of documents reported also showed involvement of Pakistan spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence.

“How can a government permitted consortium between two intelligence agencies to destabilise a democratically elected government, this is very regrettable and depressing,” Prasad said.

A Latvian aircraft dropped a large consignment of arms including several hundred AK-47 rifles and more than a million rounds of ammunition over a large area in Jhalda, Ghatanga, Belamu, Maramu villages of Purulia district Dec 17, 1995.
