Mumbai : The Bombay High Court Friday dismissed the bail application of alleged tax evader Hasan Ali Khan, asking him to first approach a special court hearing cases against him on money laundering, a lawyer said.
“Justice R.C. Chavan dismissed the bail application, asking him to first approach a special court for money laundering cases,” said I.P. Bagaria, Khan’s lawyer.
He said he would take up the matter in the special court Saturday.
A Mumbai sessions court April 26 extended till May 7 the judicial custody of Hasan Ali, who is accused of money laundering and tax evasion.
The sessions court April 13 extended his judicial custody till April 26 following which he had filed an appeal in the high court which came up for hearing Friday.
Hasan Ali was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate March 17 after the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted to him by the trial court. On March 21, the apex court gave his custody to the ED for an additional three days.
Among other things, Hasan Ali is suspected to have stashed away around $8 billion in Swiss bank accounts, transferred cash and assets out of the country through dubious means, and evaded taxes on income with a suspected liability of over Rs.40,000 crore.
