“After the arms drop incident, three assembly elections have passed. The fourth is going on. Today an accused is raising allegations and they are making a ruckus over it and demanding judicial probe. What were they doing for all these years? Were they sleeping?” Mukherjee told reporters in Kolkata.

Bhattacharjee Friday demanded a judicial inquiry into the 1995 arms drop case in Purulia.

Bhattacharjee’s demand came within a day of an interview given by prime accused in the case Kim Davy, who claimed the arms were dropped to “destabilise” the state government and that the central government had played the role of a facilitator.

In a separate statement, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) sought a judicial enquiry by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court into the circumstances of the arms drop to uncover the network responsible.
