Tamil Nadu seeks private investment in tourism sector

Chennai : The Tamil Nadu government Thursday said it will seek private investment in the tourism sector to develop hotels and other infrastructure.

Presenting the AIADMK government’s first budget Thursday, Finance Minister O. Pannerselvam said: “This government will facilitate private investment in the tourism sector. Heritage tourism circuits covering important monuments will be promoted. Private investors will be encouraged to use the traditional buildings in such places as hotels.”

He said eco-tourism circuits linking hill stations, forests and beaches also will be encouraged by creating suitable infrastructure under the public private partnership mode.

He said Tamil Nadu is one among the four states selected by the central government for implementation of the ‘Inclusive Tourism Infrastructure Project’ with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank at an outlay of Rs.450 crore.
