New Delhi : The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the Commonwealth Games 2010, released Friday, states there were “inexplicable” delays in planning for catering services and in the execution of various catering-related activities.
The Organising Committee (OC) was responsible for providing catering services at the Games Village and venues for athletes and team officials, VIPs, technical officials and media persons, volunteers, workforce, contractors and spectators.
Apart from that, CAG also found numerous irregularities in the award of the Games Village catering contract.
It said the catering contracts for CWG-2010 were awarded only between May and August 2010 whereas these were awarded more than a year in advance for the Melbourne CWG-2006 and London Olympics 2012.
According to the report, the catering functional area in the OC was activated only in January 2009 (against the original deadlines of June 2007) with the appointment of an assistant project officer.
The process of award took 14 months, with two rounds of tendering, it said.
