Ranchi : Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Wednesday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into irregularities in awarding contracts for a rural electrification scheme.
Madhu Koda, who was the chief minister from 2006-08, is one of the accused in the case which was so far probed by the Jharkhand vigilance bureau.
“Munda has ordered a CBI probe into Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme scam. The contracts for rural electrification works were awarded to IVRCM company at a cost of Rs.129.08, Rs.182.83 and RS.185.23 crore, respectively,” said a press release issued by the chief minister’s office.
These contracts, funded by the central government, were awarded to IVRCL at inflated rates during the Koda regime, sources said.
The Income Tax (I-T) department raided offices of IVRCL in October 2009 while probing charges against Koda, who was also looking after the power department as the chief minister.
Koda, MP from Chaibasa constituency, is in jail since November 2009 forminvolvement in various graft cases.
