Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Wednesday announced double compensation of Rs.300,000 for the families of people who die or who suffer permanent disability due to wild animal attacks.
In a statement made in the state assembly, Jayalalithaa also announced hike in compensation for the damage caused to crops, property and loss of cattle by wild animals.
She said the compensation for damaged crops had been increased to Rs.25,000 per acre from Rs.15,000 and Rs.500 for each damaged coconut tree.
She said the compensation for fully-damaged concrete and tiled houses was increased to Rs.35,000 per house and that of fully damaged huts to Rs.10,000.
The chief minister said the government had been paying a compensation of Rs.5,000 per house, irrespective of the extent of damages.
Regarding severely damaged houses, Rs.5,000 would be paid for concrete and tiled houses while Rs.2,000 for huts. Owners of partially damaged houses will be paid Rs.1,500, she added.
The compensation for the loss of goat was increased to Rs.2,000, sheep to Rs.1,500 and pig Rs.1,000. The compensation for the loss of poultry was hiked from Rs.30 to Rs.100 per hen.
The government also increased the compensation for the damage caused to property and personal belongings due to wild animal attacks to Rs.2,000.
