Pakistan opts for 100,000 transparent ballot boxes

Islamabad : Pakistan will procure 100,000 transparent ballot boxes, authorities have decided.

The Election Commission Tuesday approved the procurement of transparent ballot boxes to meet future needs, sources told Dawn.

The commission currently has over 300,000 ballot boxes.

At a meeting held here, it was decided to keep more ballot boxes in reserve so as to replace those not worth using and ensure availability of appropriate number of ballot boxes in case the number of polling stations was hiked.

Pakistan has a population more than 170 million, over half of which are women.
