Islamabad : The names of 1.2 million people have been struck off the voters’s list in Pakistan’s Balochistan province as they were unverified, an official said.
Mehboob Anwar, the election commissioner of Balochistan, said the names of about 1.2 million people have been removed as they did not figure with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
He said that a door-to-door verification campaign has been launched so that a final computerised electoral list can be compiled.
Dawn qouted Anwar as saying that after 1.2 million names were removed from the list, the number of registered voters in Balochistan had fallen to 3,004,000.
Anwar said 2,000 supervisors and 8,000 staffers would take part in the verification drive in 9,214 census blocks in 30 districts of the province.
Pakistan has a population of 170 million.
