New Delhi: In last three years (2008, 2009, 2010), around four lakh people committed suicide in the country. About 35% of them were below the age of 30 years. What is more concerning is that there has been a steady rise in suicidal deaths in the given period. The information has been provided by the government.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jitendra Singh, in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, provided data about suicidal deaths in the country.
The total number of suicidal deaths in the given three years stands at 3,86,767. The percentage of people who committed suicide in the age group of 15-29 years during 2008, 2009, 2010 was 35.7%, 34.5% and 35.3% respectively.
