New Delhi : The Congress Monday said right to recall MPs and reject poll candidates as demanded by activist Anna Hazare is “not practical” given the turnout in elections, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the measure should be considered seriously.
“Candidates win elections by getting only three crore votes out of 13-14 crore voters…. I do not think it is possible in the country,” Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters.
He said the demand to reject candidates will be applicable when maximum voters will come forward for voting.
After ending his 12-day fast on the Lokpal issue, Hazare Sunday said his fight would now be for Right to Recall and Right to Reject as part of electoral reforms.
Backing poll reforms, BJP leader Rajnath Singh said: “As far as change in system is concerned, we are in favour of it. There should be changes in the electoral system, administrative system and economic system.”
