Aligarh: Prof. Wasim Ahmad of the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded with the prestigious Vigyan Ratna award of the Council of Science & Technology, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Prof. Ahmad received the award from the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Abdul Mannan at a function organized in Lucknow. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-, a memento and a citation.
Prof. Ahmad received this award for his outstanding contribution in the field of Biodiversity, taxonomy, ecology and phylogenomics of soil inhabiting nematodes, said Zeeshan Ahmad, Officiating Public Relations Officer, AMU. Dr. Ahmad is an internationally acclaimed nematode taxonomist and has published several books and a large number of research papers in international journals of repute. He has also distinction of working on soil nematode fauna of over twenty different countries of the world.

Dr. Ahmad has earlier received several national and International awards and fellowships in addition to the prestigious E. K. Janaki Ammal National Award on Animal Taxonomy from the Government of India, which he received this year.
