Panaji : Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Friday ruled out the much-hyped mid-night session of the state legislative assembly, being planned to mark the 50th year of Goa’s liberation.
Speaking to reporters here, Kamat said that there was never a decision to hold a midnight session, which either Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, or party general secretary Rahul Gandhi were scheduled to address on the night of Dec 18.
“The midnight session was never decided,” Kamat told reporters, a month after All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Jagmeet Singh Brar and state Congress president Subhash Shirodkar said that the top Congress leaders were scheduled to attend the event.
The main opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party and ruling coalition partner, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have already opposed the idea of a midnight session, with the BJP stating that they would boycott the same, if held.
Kamat also said that the Goa government would be releasing a short version of the Vision document for the state which is authored by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research’s (CSIR) former director general, R.A. Mashelkar.
