Lucknow: Shia Muslims took out the procession of Faateh-e-Furaat to mark the martyrdom of Hazrat Abbas on eighth day of Muharram on Sunday. The procession originated from Dariya Wali Masjid and culminated at Imambara Ghufran Ma’ab. The highlight was mourners holding torches and mourning the martyrdom of Hazrat Abbas.
As per the history of Karbala incident, Hazrat Abbas, the son of Hazrat Ali was also part of the caravan of 72 associates of Imam Hussain who were martyred at Karbala. As the enemy forces had snapped food and water supply, Hazrat Abbas ventured out to bring water from nearby canal known as Furaat.
However, before he could deliver the water to the thirsty children and women in the camp, he was martyred by the enemy forces.
Heart rendering scenes were observed as the incident of martyrdom of Hazrat Abbas was narrated before the procession. Draped in black cloth, the mourners started from Dariya Wali Masjid and passed through scientific convention centre, trauma centre and culminated at Imambara Ghufran Ma’ab. Imam-e-Juma, Maulana Kalbe Jawwad addressed the majlis on the occasion.
The procession is part of the nine processions permitted as per the tripartite agreement between Sunni sect of Muslims, Shias and District administration. Heavy police force was deputed to prevent any untoward incident.
