Participating in the debate in the Lok Sabha on setting up an anti-corruption ombudsman, DMK MP T.K.S. Elangovan said his party was opposed to any move which tinkers with the federal structure of the country.

He said the Lokpal should not have “retrospective effect”.

Elangovan said the Lokpal cannot be the final appellate authority when there was the Supreme Court.

“Avenues should be available to people to appeal against verdict of the Lokpal,” Elangovan said. “Please leave law-making of Lokayuktas to states and preserve their rights.”
