Kolkata : Ridiculing the Congress-led union government for failing to pass the Lokpal bill, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Friday said the party had become synonymous with corruption.
“They (Congress) are not willing to give subsidy to necessary products like oil and fertilizers but are always ready to give subsidy to big corporate houses. We want ration for all the poor people,” Bhattacharjee said while addressing a rally in Burdwan district.
“I have doubts about the effectiveness of the food security bill,” he said.
“People across the country know that the Congress government means corruption. They tried to bring in a Lokpal bill, but they made a bill that neither they could pass nor convince the opposition. The parliament went on till midnight but there was no result,” Bhattacharjee said.
He was referring to Thursday night’s proceedings in the Rajya Sabha as it failed to pass the Lokpal bill and the house was adjourned sine dine amid chaos.
