Lucknow: Some vital recommendations of the Sachar Committee have not yet been implemented by the Central Government. These include creation of Indian Waqf Service for filling the posts of CEOs of State Waqf Boards, nomination of Muslims and other minorities in proportion of their population wherever the Government has discretion for such nomination and reconsideration of earmarking of constituencies reserved for the scheduled castes.
These and many other lacunas in the process of implementation of the Prime Minister’s 15 Points Program for minority welfare were highlighted at the Third National Workshop for Economic Empowerment of the Deprived organized in Lucknow by Zakat Foundation of India (ZFI).
Addressing the Workshop ZFI president Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood appealed to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh to issue the required Government Order for implementing the central HRD Ministry’s Scheme for Urdu Teachers – 2009. Copies of this scheme, the Central Government’s letter to the State Governments dated 17 April 2009 and RTI queries sent by Zakat Foundation of India to the U.P. Basic Education Department were released at the Workshop. These documents are also uploaded on the ZFI website www.zakatindia.org.
Mr. Nisar Ahmad Tamboli, well known minority scheme activist in Maharashtra and President of Minority Welfare Organization explained in detail hundreds of schemes launched by the Central and State Governments for minority welfare. RTI Activist from Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Muzaffar Bhat shared his success stories with the audience and encouraged and guided them about the methodology of making useful queries under RTI Act.
Vice Chancellor of Integral University, Prof.Syed Wasim Akhtar valedicted the Workshop. He emphasized the utility of sincere efforts made towards community uplift and the wonderful results it can give in real terms. The participants appreciated the very establishment of the University as a readymade instance of the usefulness of sincere works. Prof. Muzaffar Iqbal, Academic Consultant of the Integral University shared with the participants his experience of establishing an orphanage in the city.
The participants, who came from Lucknow and many other cities in UP, pledged to intensify their activity under Right to Information Act selflessly for ensuring better implementation of the welfare schemes for minorities. Ten more such national workshops are yet to be conducted by the Zakat Foundation of India in different States.
