New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia is organizing an evening of Sufiana Kalam on campus. Ustad Zila Khan will be performing at Jamia on February 8, 2011 at 7.30 PM in Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium. Former Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Mr. Khursheed Alam Khan, will be the Chief Guest of the Programme. The Vice Chancellor, Mr. Najeeb Jung would grace the occasion too.
Zila Khan
A Sufi singer, Ustad Zila Khan sings both classical and semi-classical musical forms and performs in the tradition of Imdadkhani gharana. She is the first woman to have learnt and performed music in this gharana. She performs with a vast range of musical forms, like qaul, qalbana, gul, and others.
In 2006, Zila Khan made an award-winning documentary on the life and music of her father Ustad Vilayat Khan called Spirit to Soul.
Zila Khan also received the Roll of Honour from the Prime Minister of India.
