Cairo : Barring unforeseen circumstances, the evacuation of Malaysian citizens, especially students from Egypt to the Tabung Haji pilgrims’ transit centre in Jeddah is expected to end by noon, today.
National Security Council director Mohamed Tajudeen Abdul Wahab said the government would fly out about 9,000 Malaysian citizens, who had decided to return home.
He said Malaysian citizens were being flown out of the uprising by the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia.
The priority of the rescue effort is to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysian citizens.
“For this reason they are being sheltered in Jeddah first before we take the next course of action,” he told Malaysian reporters here on Saturday.
On the number of Malaysian citizens who wish to leave Egypt, he said about 9,000 of them wanted to get out of the country while others changed their minds at the last minute and decided to stay back.-
