Abu Dhabi gets robot to help people during expos

Abu Dhabi : A company that organises exhibitions in Abu Dhabi will soon employ the services of a robot to assist visitors and guide them to the desired stalls.

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) will employ the robot at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The robot would provide people with information and guide them to key locations within the venue.

The robot named Reem has also been programmed to provide personalised greetings to VIPs at exhibitions.

Reem is the latest prototype from PAL Robotics, a conglomerate based in Abu Dhabi. The robot is 1.65 metres in height, with a mobile base that enables it to move at five km per hour. It includes a motorised head with vision, face tracking and recognition functions.

The robot contains sensors and a multimedia touchscreen that offers information in various formats, as well as the ability to via video conference.

Peter Abraam, an executive director at the company, said: “Reem has been designed to assist people in places such as shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, museums and exhibition centres. I believe Reem could be a great asset and will be enjoyed by the thousands of visitors who attend the many events held at the venue each year.”
