A final death count has yet to be announced, health minister Sameh Farid said in a statement Tuesday.

Human rights groups and the UN earlier said around 300 people died and up to 1,400 were injured in the clashes between Egyptian security forces and pro-democracy protesters in Cairo and other cities.

Hundreds of people remain missing and untraced, according to human rights groups.

Mubarak faced a massive uprising that began Jan 25 at Cairo’s Tahrir Square. Tens of thousands of Egyptians took to the street to protest his nearly 30-year rule. Mubarak quit Feb 11 and went into self exile at Sharm-el Sheikh, his home town.
