“The crime rate has come down in 2010 as compared to 2009,” Gupta said, addressing the annual press conference of Delhi Police.

“The number of cases under the IPC in 2010 was 48,161 against 47,069 in 2009,” he said, adding that the increase was small in comparison to rise in the city population. The crime rate per lakh population in the capital was lower in 2010, he stressed.

The commissioner added that 78 percent murder cases were solved in 2010.

“We assure (people) that we will also solve rest of the cases,” he said.

“Detection rate of heinous offences was 78 percent, which is satisfactory. A total of 357 criminals were arrested red handed,” he added.
