Kochi: The Special NIA Court at Kochi yesterday issued summons against 14 accused in the Panayikkulam SIMI case. The summons was issued after the judge S Vijayakumar after the chargesheet filed against 17 accused.
The summons is issued against Abdul Raziq of Erattupetta, Nisamudheen of Panayikkulam, Shammi alias Shammas of Erattupetta, Shameer of Thrissur, Abdul Hakeem of Azheekode, Nisar of Udumpanchola, Thaha alias Muhyidheen Kutty of Kothamangalam, Muhammed Nisar of Karumallur, Ashkar of Kodungallore, Muhammed Nisar of Azheekode, Salih of Erattupetta, Hashim of Panayikkulam, Riyas of Ernakulam and Muhammed Naisam of Marampilli. All the accused are charged with sedition and conspiracy, etc along with certain sections of the UAPA.
The court has also reportedly ordered to send production warrant to present two accused presently in Gujarat in connection with the Ahmedabad blast. The two are PA Shaduli of Erattupetta and Ansar Nadwi of Kadungallore. The time limit of the non-bailable arrest warrant against 17th accused Nisar of Aluva, who is reportedly absconding, has been extended.
The NIA filed chargesheet against 17 accused last week. Abdul Rasheed Moulavi, who was the 16th accused when the state ATS investigated the case, was removed from the list of accused as he reportedly got ready to reveal all details to the investigating agency.
The incident leading to the case took place on the Independence Day in 2006. A meeting was convened on the topic ‘Role of Muslims in the freedom struggle’ at the Happy Auditorium at Panayikkulam near Aluva in Ernakulam district. It is said that the meeting was public in nature and that it was announced in the masjid nearby and notices distributed. Police entered the hall and arrested the people there accusing it was a secret meeting of the banned SIMI. The local police investigated the case and found that only five persons were related to the SIMI and released the others. The case was then handed over to the state ATS which re-included those released by the local police. When the investigation was going on, the case was suddenly handed over to the NIA in January 2010.
