New Delhi : Weekend book bazaars that feed the literary appetite of book lovers will soon be organised in the city in celebration of the hundred years since the shifting of India’s capital from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911.
The bazaars will be organised by the National Book Trust (NBT).
“Our centenary celebrations will be from the perspective of book lovers and book creators, and how they have contributed to the making of the cosmopolitan culture of Delhi,” NBT director Satish Kumar said at the inauguration of an exhibition here Friday.
“As part of the celebrations, NBT will introduce the concept of weekend book bazaars which will give book lovers an opportunity to indulge in their hobby which they otherwise may not be able to because of fast-paced lives and tight daily schedules,” he added.
The first in the series of weekend book bazaars will be organised in the last weekend of March.
“This is the first event that I am attending in relation to the Delhi centenary year celebrations. The Delhi government will offer all help to NBT to organise such events,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said while inaugurating the exhibition.
