Ghaziabad cops promise e-filing; say crime dipped in 2010

Ghaziabad : The Ghaziabad police Sunday promised e-filing of complaints in the New Year and claimed a drop in the number of crimes during 2010 as compared to the previous year.

Burglaries continued to be the most common crime with over the 3,000 cases being registered last year.

Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police Raghuvir Lal shared crime figures and claimed a drop in almost all crimes, including murder, robbery, rape, burglary and dacoity.

Burglary cases reported in 2010 were 3,070, while in 2009 the number was 3,147.

He said 213 murders were committed in 2010 as compared to 239 in 2009. A total of 291 rape cases were registered last year against 368 during 2009.

Robbery cases registered in 2010 were 153 while the figure for 2009 was 162.

He said that two cases of kidnapping for ransom were registered in 2010 while five such cases were registered during 2009.

Last year, attempt to murder cases also witnessed a dip with 216 cases being registered against 260 in 2009.

Lal said 28 dacoities were committed during 2010 as against 43 in the previous year.

During 2010, police registered 756 theft cases as against 926 during 2009.

Lal said five new police stations will be started with 800 additional constables in the coming year.

The district would facilitate filing of complaints on the internet in 2011, he added.
