Vagamon SIMI Camp Case: Central nod to prosecute 31 accused

Kochi: The Central Home Ministry gave permission to the National Investigation Agency to prosecute 30 accused in the Vagamon SIMI Camp case. Four accused are Keralites. Others are from Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

The case is related to the incident reportedly took place in 2007 December when a camp was held at Vagamon, tourist destination, by alleged members of the banned SIMI. A case was registered by the Mundakkayam police on June 19, 2008. The case has a total of 43 accused including some foreign nationals. The case was then handed over to the NIA in December 2009 due to the presence of foreign nationals accused.

PA Shaduli, resident of Erattupetta in Kottayam who is also the prime accused in the Panayikkulam SIMI case, is the prime accused in this case. Other Malayalis accused are Peediyekkal Shibily (resident of Erattupetta, Kottayam), Muhammed Ansar Nadwi (Aluva) and Abdul Sathar (Aluva). Others are Hafees Hussain, Abdul Sami, Muhammed Yasir, Muhammed Asif, Nadeen, HA Asadulla, Nashir Ahmed, Shakkeer Ahmed and Dr Mirza Ahmed Baig of Karnataka, Safdar Husain Nagori, Ameel Parvez, Muhammed Ali, Kamran Siddiqi, Muhammed Yunus, Shahid Nagori Mulla Husain and Muhammed Irfan from Madhya Pradesh, Muhammed Usman, Muhammed Sajid, Qayasudheen, Jahid Sheikh, Arif Kagari, Abdul Raziq, Imran Sheikh, Qayamudheen and Javed Ahmed of Gujarat and Mufti Abdul Basheer of UP.

The NIA will submit the chargesheet without any delay at the special NIA Court in Kochi. Sedition, conspiracy, UAPA and the Arms Act are charged on the accused, according to reports. There are also reports that the alleged camp at Vagamon was financed by Pakistan. Conspiracy and training in the use of weapons and explosives were allegedly held at the camp.
