Kolkata: The politburo of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Saturday mourned the deaths of over 100 people in a stampede near Kerala’s Sabarimala temple.
“The Politburo expresses its deep grief and shock at the loss of over hundred lives and injuries to many due to an accident and stampede in Pulmedu in Idukki district of Kerala,” said a statement issued by the CPI-M politburo, which started its two-day-long meeting in Kolkata.
At least 102 people were killed in the stampede that occurred Friday night when the pilgrims were returning after watching the Makara Jyothi light, the most important event of the two-month pilgrimage, from a hillock some 30 km from the Sabarimala temple.
