Anti-encroachment drive faces opposition at religious monuments

Lucknow: With strong protests raised against the attempt to remove shops from inside the Bada Imambara on Monday morning by the Hussainabad and Allied Trust, the Archaeological Survey of India will shortly take up the matter with the district administration as to why HAT was carrying out an anti-encroachment drive in the religious monuments before the non religious monuments.

Officials of the ASI stated that carrying out an anti-encroachment drive within the religious monuments will only delay and defer the process as happened on Monday because it will unite people.

Officials said that earlier strategy of the district administration was to begin with the non religious monuments first.

Interestingly Monday’s protest saw the protestors being joined by the staff and employees of the Husseinabad and Allied Trust themselves. These protestors also stood in front of the Naubat Khana protesting that the ASI officials should also vacate the offices.

An ASI official stated that administration had deferred the drive and they should have started with the encroachments at the Roomi Darwaza itself. “The protestors were joined by the employees and staff of HAT themselves. The district administration should have started out with the non religious monuments first which includes the Roomi Darwaza” said the ASI official.
